Unlocking your personal year number for 2024

Two months into 2025, and everyone is probably ready to throw in the towel. It has felt like a grueling start to the new year, with cringe-worthy headlines and brutally cold weather (even in the Southern US!). New year's resolutions may already be out the window as the harsh reality seeps in that a new year doesn’t always mean a fresh start. But what if I were to tell you that there is something that can help you navigate this year so you can come out on the other end better and stronger than when you entered it? That is the personal year number.
In numerology, each year has a ‘universal number’ that applies to everyone, and a personal year number that applies to the individual.
2025 has a universal number of 9 (2 + 0 + 2 + 5). And with that, I bring good news, depending on how you look at it.
The number 9 represents the end, where one cycle ends and a new one begins. It is a time for completion, where one cycle ends and the other begins. In a 9 year, there is a push to close one chapter so that we can start with a fresh slate for the next 9 year cycle when it begins (hey there, 2026!). The number 9 also carries the vibration of philanthropy and big picture thinking. There is a need for harmonious agreements to come together on the large scale, think countries setting aside differences and coming together for the greater good. Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? While we may not achieve a euphoric society and total world peace between now and December 31, there are shifts that are occurring that signal deep transitions from the old and into the new. We’ll have to wait and see what exactly that means, and come back and reflect on that this time next year.
Bringing it all back home, let’s dive into the personal year number. To calculate yours, you will take the dates of your birth (month and year) and reduce it to the single most digit. Then, add it to the universal year number.
So if your birthday is April 23 —
4 + 2 + 3 = 9
2 + 0 + 2 + 5 = 9
9+9 = 18
= 1 + 8
= 9
Or if your birthday is November 15
1 + 1 + 1 + 5 = 8
2 + 0 + 2 + 5 = 9
8 + 9 = 17
= 1 + 7
= 8
So, now that you have your number, what does it mean? Here is the breakdown
Personal Year Number 1
In a personal year number 1, you are in a prime place for new beginnings. It is likely that last year, you cleansed your life of relationships or patterns that were no longer serving you. Whether on purpose or it felt more ripped out from underneath you, it is very common for anything tumultuous that happened in a year 9 to set the stage for a blank slate in a year 1. Alternatively, if there were certain aspects of your life that didn’t get spruced up, don’t be surprised if that comes rearing its ugly head in a way that can no longer be ignored.
This is a time to move ahead — that could mean initiating new relationships, a new job or career, a big move, a new study or practice. If you’ve questioned whether to move forward with something completely new and you are in a personal year 1, this is the green light to go for it!
Personal Year Number 2
In a personal year number 2, you are in a time of incubation, where the actions that were taken in the previous year are beginning to take hold. It may feel like a slow burn, but have faith that there is movement underneath the surface even if you can’t always see it. This is a year of great intuition, so make sure to find some quiet time where you can listen to those internal whispers and take intentional action towards your goals. The number 2 brings a dual energy to it, where relationships and togetherness may be prioritized. Tend to those relationships that need watering, and be open to new ones, but take it all at a steady pace. It is a sensitive time where patience will be your greatest virtue.
Personal Year Number 3
The number 3 is associated with creativity, imagination, and the spiritual world. This is a playful year, the time to pursue a new hobby or creative pursuit. The year may also have a chaotic energy, which could be more than welcome after a more reserved year 2. There is a lot of opportunity for spontaneity and socialization, so take advantage of those energies. It is a time of expansion so maintain an openness to that energy and let the cards unfold.
Be conscious to still practice some restraint this year so as to not get too carried away. Or do. This is the year about following your bliss.
Personal Year Number 4
Did you have fun in your year 3? Good. The number 4 has an energy of stability, order, form, and restriction. So now is the time to buckle down and get to work.
After a light and airy year 3, the personal year 4 is meant to build off of those pursuits from a year 3 and begin to work towards your goals. What did you learn last year about yourself, and how can you translate that into something productive during the year 4?
This is a good time to focus on housekeeping tasks, clearing out your space, getting into a good routine, sticking to a budget and a good diet, tidying up your life in general. Don’t put off the boring and menial tasks, the energy of the 4 will help you work through those things that you typically avoid.
It is likely you will feel stressed and overworked during a personal year 4, but know this is just a chapter of your life. Avoid conflict, catch up on the rest you missed out on during year 3, and work towards your goals so you can look back and be proud of your accomplishments over the year.
Personal Year Number 5
After a (hopefully) very disciplined personal year 4, a year 5 is a time to ease back and soften, become more flexible and spontaneous in your daily life. You may have a high degree of curiosity this year, with an interest in trying new activities, visiting new places, or bringing some feng shui to your apartment.
The number 5 carries the energy of fun, freedom, variety, and change. Embrace this energy to breathe new life into your experience. At the same time, keep to your commitments and make sure to keep your house in order so you can build off all the hard work from year 4.
Personal Year Number 6
After a playful year during year 5, a personal year 6 is the time to settle down. The number 6 holds the energy of family, home, nurturing, peacemaking. This is a year that may prove fruitful for a marriage or birth. This is a good time to fortify relationships, be harmonious and find peace in these situations.
It could also be a time to address outstanding issues in a relationship, whether business or personal, and if there have been things weighing on those dynamics without any intervention it could be a time for separation.
As a nurturing number, it is a time to serve as a caregiver for those around you. Offer kindness to attract the people and situations that will feed your soul. Be of service and find the joy in helping with someone else’s load.
Personal Year Number 7
During a personal year 7, you have time for reflection and contemplation. After a year of being in service to others and leaning into relationships, this is a year to focus more on you. The number 7 holds the energy of analysis, wisdom, spirituality, and research. It is a great time for introspection, for some quiet time to do what you need to do to feel fulfilled. Seek nature or places of solitude to recharge your batteries. Listen to your intuition, as it will be at an all time high this year. Reflect on where you’ve been, where you are, and where you would like to go.
Personal Year Number 8
After thinking about your plans in a year 7, year 8 is a time to put those plans into action. The number 8 holds the energy of power and abundance, think of how it resembles the infinity symbol. This is the energy for the year, and you should take it by the horns. This is a time to lead and take charge. Get organized and dogmatically push through your pursuits so you can achieve the success that is available during the energy of this year. This is a time to stick to a budget and get your finances in order, and build towards any future financial goals. Be aware of your health as well, and if you are needing to gain or lose weight this would be an auspicious year to do that.
Personal Year Number 9
We’ve arrived at the end, my friends. My friend, the end. (Excuse the quick Doors reference). Much like it represents for the current universal year, this is a time to tie up loose ends. Let go of that which is no longer serving you. Look at your life objectively and decide what is holding you back that can be released as you enter the next cycle of your life. This may also be a good year for travel long-distance or over water as that provides the space to remove yourself from the day-to-day and view your life more objectively. There will be natural conclusions over this year, and if you resist in any way they will be quite literally torn from you in year 1. Better to act intentionally rather than be caught by surprise.
If you are in a year 9, congratulations on coming to this point of completion, use this year to your advantage as your enter into a new phase, like a caterpillar coming out of its cocoon.
